YOUR DATA, EXPLAINED
Privacy policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
This policy covers the Stride Android step-tracking app and this information website. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to stridesteptracker.support@gmail.com.
Information stored on your device
Stride uses your phone's activity sensors and activity-recognition permission to count steps. It stores daily step totals and dates, estimated walking time where recorded, your daily step goal and optional walking-time goal, achievement identifiers and achievement dates, and preferences such as tracking pauses and backup settings. These records support goals, history, trends, achievements, notifications and the widget. Stride does not request GPS location to count your steps.
Optional Google Drive backup
You can use Stride without connecting Google. If you connect a Google account, Stride stores the selected account email and connection settings locally to manage backups. Google handles account authorisation; Stride does not receive your Google password or store an access token persistently.
With your permission, Stride reads and writes backup files in its private Google Drive application-data folder, using the drive.appdata permission. This does not grant access to your general Drive files. Backups contain your daily step records, recorded walking time and update timestamps, daily step goal and optional walking-time goal, and achievement identifiers and dates, with backup timestamps and integrity information. An installation identifier helps manage recovery copies.
You choose manual backup or an automatic schedule. Automatic backups run when Android permits and the selected connection conditions are met. Restoring downloads the chosen copy and replaces progress only after your confirmation. Google processes and stores cloud data under its privacy policy.
How information is used and shared
Stride uses Google user data only to provide and manage the backup and restore feature you choose. It does not sell your data, use it for advertising, or send your step history to a developer-operated server. The current app contains no advertising or analytics integration. Data you export or share manually goes to the destination you select.
Stride's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. It is not used to train general-purpose AI models.
Retention and deletion
Local progress remains until you replace or remove it, clear Android app storage, or uninstall the app. Keep an export or verified backup before doing so. Stride retains up to ten verified normal Drive recovery copies per installation through its backup cleanup process; copies from other installations are not automatically removed by that installation. Failed cleanup may leave additional copies. Local safety copies created before restoring are limited to five.
Disconnecting Google Drive in Stride stops its automatic Drive backups but keeps existing cloud copies. You can revoke permission in your Google Account connections. Neither action deletes cloud backups. To remove those copies, use Google Drive's settings for managing Stride's hidden application data. This deletes the stored Drive backups and prevents restoring from those deleted copies. Exported files must be deleted separately wherever you saved or shared them. Android or device backup services may also retain data according to your device settings.
Security
Stride connects to Google Drive over HTTPS and checks backup integrity before accepting a backup. Backup files are not separately password-encrypted by Stride. Device and Google account security remain important; an integrity check is not encryption.
